Every great brand has a story   a journey of ideas, trials, and moments of inspiration. For us, the name “Mulakupetti” was not just chosen; it was discovered through experience, teamwork, and passion.

Where It All Began..!

When we first started building our brand, we called it Green Hills. The idea was to represent freshness, growth, and life. But as we applied for the trademark, we discovered that Green Hills was already registered by another company. It was a small setback but also a learning moment. We realized that before building a brand, it’s important to check trademark availability to ensure your brand name is legally yours. After that, we came up with another name Kurumulak , which means black pepper in Malayalam.  It felt authentic and close to our roots, as black pepper was our first product.  However, we faced another challenge. During the trademark process, we learned that common words or product names cannot be registered as trademarks. Words like Kurumulak, Chili Powder, or Cardamom are generic and used widely, making them ineligible for exclusive trademark ownership.

The Turning Point — When “Mulakupetti” Was Born

At this point, we shared our journey online. That’s when Mr. Hassan Fahad Rawther, the founder of adsomia , came forward with an idea.  He suggested the name “Mulakupetti” — a blend of two Malayalam words :
“Mulaku” – meaning chili or pepper
“Petti” – meaning box or container
Together, they create a name that perfectly represents a box full of spices, a world of flavors, and the spirit of Kerala .The name instantly clicked. It felt local yet global, simple yet full of meaning exactly what our brand stands for. And most importantly, it was unique and available for trademark registration.

That’s how Mulakupetti was born a brand built on creativity, courage, and community.

What We Learned About Trademarks

Building a brand is not just about finding a beautiful name — it’s about protecting it. Here are a few key takeaways from our experience:

    • Avoid Common Words: Product names or dictionary words (like “pepper,” “spice,” etc.) can’t usually be trademarked.
    • Be Unique: Invented or blended words (like Mulakupetti) are easier to protect.

    • Check Availability: Always check if your name already exists before investing in branding.

    • Register Early: File for a trademark as soon as you finalize your brand name.

    • Consult an Expert: A trademark consultant can guide you through the legal steps and save time.

From GreenEels to Kurumolagu, and finally to Mulakupetti   each step shaped our identity.

Today, Mulakupetti is not just a brand name.

Mulakpetti  is a unique and catchy name!
“Mulak” is a common term for “chili” or “pepper” in some Indian languages, while “petti” refers to a box or container, which could imply a collection or variety of spices. The name has a local, traditional touch but is still easy to pronounce, making it memorable for both regional and global markets. It’s a fun and distinctive name for a spice-exporting business with a hint of cultural flair..
